Back to school season is in full swing, and so is our excitement for fall. Although summer will always be our favorite season of all, fall with its pumpkins and orange leaves and cool breezes inspires us to make our homes cozy. Since we’ve all been in and around our homes this year more than we thought we would be, fall is the ideal season to add small touches and make minor changes to our homes. Here you’ll find eight ways to make your home cozy for fall.

Tidy Space
First things first, it’s time to tidy up. Tackle those shipping boxes collecting in the corner, the pile of paperwork that’s been bothering you whenever you notice it or the items you’ve been meaning to drop off for donation. Clean surfaces not only make you feel more relaxed and in control, they also are a nicely blank canvas for ways to make your home cozy.

Burn Candles
If you’re waiting impatiently for the leaves to change and the air to chill, candles are a great way to usher fall vibes into your home. We’re particularly fond of the scents at P. F. Candle Co., since their candles are affordably priced and sustainably made from domestically-grown soy wax, fine fragrance oils and cotton-core wicks. They’re also paraben-free, phthalate-free and vegan-friendly since they rigorously avoid any animal testing. Scents like Spruce or Spiced Pumpkin will make your home cozy and smell lovely.

Layer Blankets
A tried and true way to add coziness to your space is to layer with varying textiles and textures, and there’s no easier or less expensive way to achieve the look of effortless comfort than with throw blankets. Find chenille, knotty or wooly throw blankets and play around with draping them over your favorite seating areas around your home for almost instant warm and cozy vibes. Bonus points if you add a pretty basket for storing the blankets when necessary, which doubles up on added texture and interest.

Soften Lighting
Nothing transforms a space quite like lighting. Swap harsh overhead lights for soft fixtures and lamplight to give your home an elevated update without much effort. Softer lighting will make your home feel cozier and, quite literally, brighter in time for shorter fall days.

Warm Floors
Beautiful rugs will not only last you a lifetime, and many times they get better with age, they also warm and soften otherwise cold and bare hardwood or tile floors. For extra style try layering rugs like a pro. Make sure your base rug is largely neutral and extends underneath the front legs of all main seating in a room, and then layer smaller, more colorful or patterned rugs on top. Get cozy!

Bake Cookies
There’s a reason why a classic tactic for making someone want to buy your home is to bake cookies before a showing. It works! Nothing makes a home feel cozier or more inviting than the smell of warm, freshly baked cookies coming out of the oven. Bake up a batch (or more) and enjoy both the yummy result and the way it makes your home feel wonderfully cozy.
Play Music
Mood music! Get yourself a great Bluetooth speaker, set it up in a spare (perhaps freshly tidied) corner and start playing your favorite songs. The ones that make you feel nostalgic and happy are perfect for creating a cozy, warm and fuzzy atmosphere in your home.
